New Oceans

You cannot discover new oceans unless
you are willing to
lose sight of the shore.

How can you find what is in front of you if you are always looking at what’s behind you?

A lot of us miss what’s coming because we are so busy living in the past. Sometimes, it's the simple things in life that we have to learn.  Have you ever played the child’s game “Tag”?  The object is to outrun the chosen person who is, the “tagger”, before you are tagged and are “It”.  The only thing that frees you from being tagged is the “base”, the safe haven.  Were you that person who never came off the base, ran around, and had fun with everyone else?  Were you the one who just hung near or on the base so that there was no risk of getting tagged, watching from afar not really in the game; while everyone was running around laughing, falling down and trying not to be tagged?

This was a simple game but it served its purpose for coming off that safe base and joining in, having fun, and interacting with everyone else.  It wasn’t about whether you won or lost.  It was about taking a chance and learning so that in the event you were tagged you would develop ways to avoid being tagged.  Or better yet, learning others week points so that you got better and faster at tagging someone else to be “It”.
It was a game of chance that taught you to let go and lose sight of the safe base to really learn how to grow from the game.

The bible states in Luke 9:62, that “No man, when putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is worthy of the kingdom of God.”  I have come to understand from this passage that my relationship with God is worth more than anything I would have to leave behind.   I alone, am the only one who is in charge of my relationship with God.   Just like this simple game of “Tag”, you will never discover what’s in store for you if you won’t let go of what’s behind you.  Your faith will unfold your future. God’s desire for us is to “set our sights” on Him and never waiver in either our journey or our devotion to Him.  It’s time for you lose sight of the shore (your past) and let God begin to navigate your new oceans!
